FAQ

I don't see the dimensions I'm looking for offered as a print...

My photographs look great in large prints! However, only a few sizes have been listed in my print shop for the convenience of the customers. I offer most sizes in print from up to 8” on the shortest size to 72” on the longest even if they’re not listed online. Contact me for a personalized size, letting me know what size you are looking for, and I'll see what corresponding dimensions the photo can be printed in.

HOW DO I BUY A PRINT?

Visit any of my print galleries in my Print Shop, and you will be guided step-by-step through the process of selecting what size, medium, style finish you like.

can you recommend the best printing and framing option?

I have three favorites:

FINE ART PAPER with a 1 or 2 in. matte. In my Print shop, all my "fine art prints" are giclée prints. They are the highest quality print you can get. If you want something that lasts for lifetimes without fading or discoloration, this is what you should purchase. Also, in giclée printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used, so there is no visible dot screen pattern, unlike regular printers. The print has almost all the same tonalities and hues of the original photograph, and the longevity of the print is far superior than any other because only archival inks and museum quality substrates are used.

ACRYLIC PRINTS are another favorite. They look very chic, classy and their frameless look brings the photographs to life.

METAL PRINTS are amazing! They are extremely high quality prints with dyes infused into aluminum so they are scratch proof, fade proof, waterproof prints, that basically last forever and look very classy! They also make colors pop, however, sometimes can make an image look slightly darker than it actually is. So for Astro Photography, etc. I recommend Plexiglas prints.

All three of these work best with my photographs and look most classy. The ideal color for the frame depends on the color of your wall but generally speaking white and black frames work best with my prints.

Take a look at the My Prints at Home page to see what they look like framed and matted in situ.

For the limited edition prints, I highly recommend buying the print at my shop, and then purchasing a standard frame-with-matte  separately. However, if you want to go for a slightly modern look, then Metal prints are great with these painting like images.

I'm not the biggest fan of canvas prints for my work.

Please feel free to write to me here for any additional questions or recommendations regarding printing and framing.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY ART?

Unpacking your prints

I highly recommend wearing a cotton glove while handling the prints, especially if you’ve ordered giclée prints.

Hanging your prints

No photographic prints should ever be placed in direct sunlight or near direct sources of heat or air conditioning. Ideally, they should not be exposed to challenging environments such as bathrooms or kitchens. Climate controlled spaces are always best. Heavier pieces may demand the use of two hooks for stability. Paper prints should be placed behind UV blocking glass as they are normally not coated with UV blockers as with our canvas prints. The print should not contact the glass when mounted, hence I highly recommend getting 1” or 2” mattes for the prints.

Cleaning your prints

I cannot stress enough the need to hang paper prints behind UV blocking glass. The glass can then be lightly dusted or sprayed with an aerosol duster. Never spray the glass cleaner directly on the glass.

Similarly, canvas prints can be damaged by virtually any cleaning products. Avoid them. Even using excessive amounts of warm water can damage the print without removing the soil. A light dusting is always possible, but should not be required more than once every couple of years. Cleaning is always difficult and seriously hazardous to the print. Your hands should be thoroughly washed to remove any dirt and oil before handling the print.

Acrylics are used in the processes that, while water resistant, are not water proof. Try any cleaning technique on an edge first (usually the bottom edge which is the least noticeable) to see what the print will tolerate. A soft cloth lightly moistened with water is best. Dab the soiled area lightly to slowly remove the soil. Do not rub vigorously and support the canvas by placing your other hand behind the area of the canvas that you are cleaning. Go slow and avoid putting enough water on the cloth to allow it to run over the surface of the print.

Storing your prints

When not hanging, store prints standing upright, not stacked, with protection surrounding them. Do not put in spaces that are not temperature and humidity controlled, like unfinished basements, attics, or garages.
